It seemed like a routine surveillance gig for private investigator Charlaine Pennington. Except that she didn't know who the client was or why she was following a chief financial officer with nothing but sterling achievements on her resume. In the course of 48 hours, a series of events unravels the perception of normality: A baffling abduction of a venture capitalist, a deadly confrontation in the lab of a 3D printing company, resignations of two star engineers, the theft of mysterious materials and prototypes, the disappearance of a disgruntled chief engineer. Charlaine and her boss at Discreet Investigations Inc. race to sort it out before a lethally dangerous force is unleashed into the underworld of international crime.

The fast-paced crime plot of Like Printing Money is the engine for an exploration of the shifting culture of Baltimore, the vagaries of greed and friendship, the double-edged sword of technology, the internecine battles within corporate culture, and the strain of relationships under pressure.
Like Printing Money【電子書籍】[ R.A.

The Thinking Machine (1907) is a short story collection by Jacques Futrelle. Published at the height of his career as a leading popular detective and science fiction writer, The Thinking Machine collects stories that originally appeared in such publications as The Saturday Evening Post and the Boston American. Celebrated for his brisk storytelling and mastery of suspense, Jacques Futrelle was lost at sea on April 15, 1912 while returning from Europe on the HMS Titanic. His wife, who survived the disaster, had his last book dedicated to “the heroes of the Titanic.” Professor Augustus S. F. X Van Dusen, Ph.D., LL.D., F.R.S., M.D., M.D.S is a man whose intellect is as exhaustive as his name. Having learned the game of chess just hours before, he defeated grandmaster Tchaichowsky using logic and reason alone, earning himself the nickname “The Thinking Machine.” Ever since that fateful day, Van Dusen, with the help of his trusted companion Hutchinson Hatch, is called to solve crimes, complete puzzles, and face challenges no normal man could possibly endure. In “The Problem of Cell 13,” Van Dusen argues that no feat is impossible when the human mind is involved. To prove his theory, he endeavors to escape from a notoriously brutal prison in just one week’s time. Presented alongside six other stories of mystery and adventure, “The Problem of Cell 13” stands out as one of the greatest detective and suspense tales of all time. This edition of Jacques Futrelle’s The Thinking Machine is a classic of American detective fiction reimagined for modern readers.

Since our inception in 2020, Mint Editions has kept sustainability and innovation at the forefront of our mission.
The Dead Letter (1867) is a detective novel by Metta Victoria Fuller Victor. Published under the pseudonym Seeley Regester, The Dead Letter is the first full-length work of crime fiction in American literature. “I paused suddenly in my work. Over a year’s experience in the Dead Letter office had given a mechanical rapidity to my movements in opening, noting and classifying the contents of the bundles before me […] Young ladies whose love letters have gone astray, evil men whose plans have been confided in writing to their confederates, may feel but little apprehension of the prying eyes of the Department.” Richard Redfield is accustomed to boredom in his role as inspector at the post office’s dead letter department. Tasked with reviewing the contents of undeliverable letters, Redfield is shocked to discover a clue to the death of his friend two years prior. With the help of Detective Burton, Redfield sets out to uncover the truth, which he hopes will provide belated justice for Henry and peace for his bereaved fianc?e Eleanor.
While the national narrative coming out of Ireland since the 2008 economic crisis has been relentlessly sanguine, fiction has offered a more nuanced perspective from both well-established and emerging authors. In Broken Irelands, McGlynn examines Irish fiction of the post-crash era, addressing the proliferation of writing that downplays realistic and grammatical coherence. Noting that these traits have the effect of diminishing human agency, blurring questions of responsibility, and emphasizing emotion over rationality, McGlynn argues that they reflect and respond to social and economic conditions during the global economic crisis and its aftermath of recession, austerity, and precarity.

Rather than focusing on overt discussions of the crash and recession, McGlynn explores how the dominance of an economic worldview, including a pervasive climate of financialized discourse, shapes the way stories are told. In the writing of such authors as Anne Enright, Colum McCann, Mike McCormack, and Lisa McInerney, McGlynn unpacks the ways that formal departures from realism through grammatical asymmetries like unconventional verb tenses, novel syntactic choices, and reliance on sentence fragments align with a cultural moment shaped by feelings of impotence and rhetorics of personal responsibility.
Broken Irelands Literary Form in Post-Crash Irish Fiction【電子書籍】[ Mary M.
Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice (1919) is a comic fantasy novel by James Branch Cabell. Set in a world where history and fantasy collide, where a lowly pawnbroker can encounter monsters, gods, and devils, Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice is one of Cabell’s best-known works of fiction. For several years after its initial publication, the novel was the subject of an obscenity trial pursued by the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice. In 1923, after winning his case, Cabell made sure to immortalize the event with a revised edition featuring a “lost” chapter where Jurgen is persecuted for his writing by grotesque Philistines. Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice is one work in a series of novels, essays, and poems known as the Biography of the Life of Manuel. “For now had come to Jurgen and the Centaur a gold-haired woman, clothed all in white, and walking alone. She was tall, and lovely and tender to regard: and hers was not the red and white comeliness of many ladies that were famed for beauty, but rather it had the even glow of ivory […] to Jurgen this woman's countenance was in all things perfect. Perhaps this was because he never saw her as she was.” Unsatisfied with life as a lowly pawnbroker, Jurgen follows his heart in pursuit of ideal love. A proponent of medieval chivalry, he encounters gods, goddesses, kings, and queens as he passes from one otherworldly realm to the next. On his wondrous journey, he meets some of the most celebrated women in history and literature, including Guinevere, Anaitis, and Helen of Troy. Jurgen, a wily poet and legendary lover with a head full of dreams and desires, is an allegorical figure for modern humanity, a flawed hero whose kaleidoscopic world is not entirely different from our own. Cabell’s work has long been described as escapist, his novels and stories derided as fantastic and obsessive recreations of a world lost long ago. To read Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice, however, is to understand that the issues thereinーthe struggle for power, the unspoken distance between men and womenーwere vastly important not only at the time of its publication, but in our own, divisive world. This edition of James Branch Cabell’s Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice is a classic of fantasy and romance reimagined for modern readers.

Since our inception in 2020, Mint Editions has kept sustainability and innovation at the forefront of our mission.
Villa Diodati Files.
Frederick Douglass: A Biography (1899) is a book by African American author, lawyer, and political activist Charles Chesnutt. While he is more widely known for “The Goophered Grapevine,” the first story published in The Atlantic by an African American author, Chesnutt was also a gifted biographer whose storytelling ability allowed him to present the life of such a man as Frederick Douglass in a fresh and revelatory light. “From this night of slavery Douglass emerged, passed through the limbo of prejudice which he encountered as a freeman, and took his place in history.” Born in Maryland, Douglass escaped slavery at the age of twenty with the help of his future wife Anna Murray Douglass, a free black woman from Baltimore. In New England, he connected with the influential abolitionist community and joined the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, a historically Black denomination which counted Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman among its members. In 1839, Douglass became a preacher and began his career as a captivating orator on religious, social, and political matters. He met William Lloyd Garrison, publisher of anti-slavery newspaper The Liberator, in 1841, and was deeply moved by his passionate abolitionism. As Douglass’ reputation and influence grew, he traveled across the country and eventually to Ireland and Great Britain to advocate on behalf of the American abolitionist movement, winning countless people over to the leading moral cause of the nineteenth century. Arguably one of the most influential Americans of all time, Douglass led a life dedicated to democracy and racial equality. This edition of Charles Chesnutt’s Frederick Douglass: A Biography is a classic of African American literature reimagined for modern readers.

Since our inception in 2020, Mint Editions has kept sustainability and innovation at the forefront of our mission.
The History of Miss Betsy Thoughtless (1751) is a novel by Eliza Haywood. Blending tragedy and comedy, Haywood explores the intersection of ambition, family, and desire to reveal how women so often fall victim to the whims of men. The History of Miss Betsy Thoughtless has been recognized as one of the first novels in English literature to depict the development of an independent heroine, as well as to move away from the more popular genre of amatory fiction toward the marriage plot. Widely read in the eighteenth century, Haywood influenced such authors as Fanny Burney and Jane Austen. Having completed her education at an all-girls boarding school, Betsy Thoughtless moves to the city of London. For the first time, she finds herself thrust into the orbit of young and marriageable men, whose attention and affections she craves, though remains cautious to reciprocate. Betsy knows the dangers inherent to sexual improprietyーpregnancy out of wedlock would all but guarantee her a life of poverty and misfortune, not to mention the shame it would bring to her aristocratic family. Despite these pressures, Betsy finds a way to enjoy single life while learning to recognize the signs of deceitful, unworthy men. When marriage does come, she soon realizes the institution is far from perfect. Unhappy, she grows as a person and looks for a way to regain her former independence.
