?Umberto Giordano's opera Siberia with it's libretto by Puccini's successful librettist Luigi Illica (La boh?me, Tosca) premiered in 1903 at La Scala as a replacement of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, which was not finished at the time. Madama Butterfly came out in Milan shortly after Siberia and flopped completely. Umberto Giordano, however, briefly became a public favorite. Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos is one of the early 20th century's most peculiar operatic works. It's narrative derives from the famous myth of Ariadne, who is abandoned by Theseus on the island of Naxos and eventually falls in love with the god Bacchus. This opera is, however, preceded by an extensive modern prologue in which a young Composer finds himself tortured by egotistical artists complicating preparations for the opera's production in an eternal struggle between comedy and high art. Both Pizzetti and Stravinsky were drawn to the subject of Oedipus Rex, but in very different contexts. The 24-year-old Pizzetti was commissioned to write Three Orchestral Preludes for use in a theatrical production. When reading the novel, John Neumeier was deeply fascinated by Tolstoy's work: not only by the main characters and the plot, but also by the extraordinary variety of thematic connections. Watching the Sullivan TV Show while he was there staying with his sister at 113 McCann Street, also listen in on the local radio programs on WFRX later was the first interview of any of the Beatles on air and in person in America the 45 record he had with him was SHE LOVES YOU which was aired on Sept 29th, early March played FROM ME TO YOU making that station and Marsha Shaffer the first DJ to spin a Beatles record and interview of any of the Beatles. A great deal of worldwide media began after the former home of Louise was about to be torn down for a 10 car parking lot for the state who own that property in 1994, Efforts began to pour in from locals and Beatles fans from around the world to save this as said the most historic property in Franklin County. George was there to be on a cheer-down as the English call, it's a get away relaxing time for George who could not walk the streets in his own country and others, but in Benton he was able to buy records buy a Rickenbacker guitar went camping in the Garden of the Gods, and meet the teenagers of a crew cut generation, who never saw the likes or sounds of George Harrison of the Beatles it was as if a UFO landed on the town square. Legendary all-American frontman and guitarist Mark Farner was the engine that pulled the original Grand Funk Railroad repeatedly to the top of the charts in the 1970s. At age 70, Farner commands the stage with the same intensity and outpouring of love as he did in the summer of '69 when the band's debut album was released. After the 1969 Atlanta Pop Festival put Grand Funk on the fast track, the band topped the Billboard charts twice with both the anthem We're an American Band and The Loco-Motion. They then followed that and hit the top 10 in 1975 with Some Kind of Wonderful and Bad Time. The band broke up in 1976 and sporadically reunited over the years. In August 1989, Mark participated in the 20th anniversary of the Woodstock festival at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. The 20 Years After festival featured Edgar Winter, Canned Heat, Iron Butterfly, Sha Na Na and others. The 15-track set included ten Grand Funk classics. The full concert is available on CD and DVD with a vinyl version of nine GFR tracks. Some 50 years later, something magical still happens when Farner takes the stage. His voice is still strong and on key, with his guitar playing still slick and lightning quick. He loves playing live where he can connect to his fans and people of all ages. Jan?cek's opera K?ta Kabanov? is set in a small Russian town and is based on the play The Storm by Aleksandr Ostrovsky. The story revolves around the central character, K?ta - sung by the phenomenal Corinne Winters (Neue Musikzeitung) - who is trapped in a loveless marriage to an abusive man named Boris. Despite her unhappiness, she is bound by the strict societal norms of her time and is unable to escape the situation. However, when she meets and falls in love with a young man named V?na Kudrj??, she finally experiences happiness and passion. But their relationship is short-lived, as Boris finds out and forces K?ta to confess her infidelity in front of the entire town. Overwhelmed by the shame and guilt, she drowns herself in the nearby river. The opera explores themes of social conformity, oppression, and the consequences of forbidden love. Jan?cek's use of musical leitmotifs and repetitive themes reflect the characters' emotions and psychological states, adding depth and nuance to the story. Stage director Barrie Kosky managed to create an intimate but impressive setting in the magnificent Felsenreitschule. Jittery and balletic, ecstatic and anxious, Winters has a child's volatile presence, and her livewire voice conveys K?t'a's wonder and vulnerability.
