Medium to full-bodied, layered and vinous, it's satiny and textural, with an enveloping core of fruit, superb concentration and incisive acids. Chiseled and penetrating, it concludes with a long, saline finish. If the 2018 was immediate and demonstrative, this has structure to burn with age, charming though it is out of the gates, and I'm inclined to nominate it Bouchard's finest Val Vilaine to date.(The Wine Advocate, Sep 24, 2021)

Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, its deep and complete, with huge reserves of fruit and structure, enlivened by a pillowy mousse. Concluding with a long, sapid finish, I continue to think this is one of Prévosts finest releases of the decade. Medium to full-bodied, layered and vinous, it's satiny and textural, with an enveloping core of fruit, superb concentration and incisive acids. Chiseled and penetrating, it concludes with a long, saline finish. Polished and subtly creamy in texture yet brightly juicy with apple and lemon, this displays an uncanny sense of lift and refinement, perfectly complementing the honeysuckle and heliotrope perfume that waft inner-mouth. You could lose yourself in the ineffability of this wine¡Çs floral diversity and in its resonantly nut and grain low tones. Hints of apple pip lend subtle additional piquancy on a long and at once soothing as well as stimulating finish, with suggestions of oyster liquor becoming prominent as the bottle stands open for a few minutes, and serving to milk the salivary glands for all that they are worth. It's full-bodied, tensile and searingly chalky, but this concentrated and intense wine's racy spine of acidity is beautifully integrated. This was the first blend Lécaillon presided over as a Roederer employee - three years before he was appointed chef des caves in 1999 - and it was clearly a harbinger of great things to come. It's full-bodied, tensile and searingly chalky, but this concentrated and intense wine's racy spine of acidity is beautifully integrated. This was the first blend Lécaillon presided over as a Roederer employee - three years before he was appointed chef des caves in 1999 - and it was clearly a harbinger of great things to come. Almond in frangipane guise along with pistachio extract and rowan, iris and gentian reinforce an alluring illusion of sweetness as well as of complexly wafting perfume; and a faint, noble suggestion of mushroom lends unanticipated savor. Predictably for its vintage, this buoyant, transparent, polished bottling finishes with more nuances than one can find mineral descriptors for, but chalk, smoke and salt - while pretty obvious - allude at least imperfectly to a spellbindingly sustained sense of interactive and intriguing if illusive nuances all set within an infectiously juicy and mouthwateringly savory context.
